The construction of a $52 million (£26 million) the D-Marin Didim Marina has already commenced and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009.Local property prices are reported to start at around £60,000 for a luxurious 2-bedroom apartment.
The 287,000m² marina will have its own exclusive yacht club, and integral heliport. The marina will have a capacity for 623 yacht berths plus space for a further 600 dry docked yachts. There will be a yacht lift for 300 and 100 tonne yachts. There will also be a swimming pool for a relaxing swim. The marina will largely serve yachts of 75 between 100 metres in length.
The marina will also include a number of related facilities including yacht chandlers. There will be a wide range of ancillary services including supermarkets, a shopping centre, sports and fitness centres, petrol station, restaurants and a cultural centre. There will also be banks, too.
There will also be the creation and management of a ferryboat operation, which will provide cruises to the Greek Islands of Kalimnos, Kos and Leros. To assist those making use of the marina, there will be a customs post, a passport control unit, and port authority facilities.
Dogus chief executive Ferit Sahenk pointed out that with his firm's overall investment in marinas in Turkey reaching some $200 million, he believed Didim Marina would bring extra new business to the area.
He added yachtsmen would be keen to use the marina as it was on the Cesme, Kusadasi, Bodrum, Datca and Marmaris routes. He feels that ferry boats from the Greek Islands of Kos, Samos, Kalimnos, Leros and Patmos would be an added draw.
Mayor of Didim, Mumin Kamaci, is quoted as saying that the marina will be an important investment for the country in general and will revive the regional economy.
