Newcastle is the latest city to lay claim to the title of ‘Best Student City’, winning the accolade at this year’s WhatUni Student Choice Awards.
Those heading to Newcastle after last week's A-Level results will have something extra to look forward to as former and current students voted the city the best for students in the UK. The WhatUni Student Choice Awards reward universities for everything from job prospects to the quality of the student union across a range of categories. The winner of the ‘Best Student City’ award was Northumbria University, with the University of Bristol coming in second place and Newcastle University coming in third.
With both of the universities coming in the top three, it is clear that the appeal of the North East has never been stronger for students. The popularity of the city has also been reflected in the number of applications for both universities. Between 2012 and 2013, Newcastle saw a 12.5% rise in applications, whilst Northumbria enjoyed an 11.5% increase.
‘Universities in Newcastle have seen the number of applications rise by up to 12.5%’
This surge in applications for both universities means that there is now more demand than ever before for high quality student accommodation in the city. University accommodation is becoming increasingly oversubscribed, meaning that many students are looking towards developments provided by the private sector.
Students are looking for modern developments that meet their needs with superb communal facilities and services, in addition to a high quality finish. Private student accommodation investments are the perfect solution for many students, offering a superb range of on-site facilities whilst remaining close to both their chosen university and the nearby town or city centre.
Investors in the Glass Works will benefit from 9% NET rental return and a 3 year rental guarantee. This managed property investment opportunity will be operated by one of the largest national operators of student accommodation in the UK.
